JHELUM-(2
May 2012)-A book launching ceremony for “Zero Point”,
a political thriller by Dr.Wasique Mirza, recently published
in USA, was held in Jhelum on 1 May 2012. DCO Jhelum, Mirza
Mahmood-ul-Hassan was the chief guest. Dignitaries from all
walks of life with keen interest in literature and arts
attended the launching ceremony. Zero Point is a
fictional account of a political murder mystery, which focuses
on the ills and challenges of Pakistani politics and its close
and often convoluted relationship with the United States.
Prominent lawyer and a literary person Mirza Abdul Ghafoor
Baig and Major (Rtd) Zarghoon Gull, a learned member of Al-Markaz,
Jhelum presented their book reviews. Participants including
learned dignitaries, highly appreciated Wasique Mirza’s
insight into Pakistan’s complicated socio – political climate
and foreign relations policies. In the end, the chief guest,
himself a learned student of literature, presented his own
review of the book highlighting its two aspects, “one apparent
and the one in between the lines.” He mentioned the writer’s
way of narrating Pakistani emotions with American similes and
metaphors, creating an amalgam of east and west that gives the
reader a simultaneous taste of paratha and burger.
Zero Point
follows the main characters, a trauma surgeon and his
accidental partner through streets of Pakistan as they evade
their potential assassin, searching for the truth behind the
murder of the candidate who was most likely going to be the
prime minister of Pakistan in the upcoming election. As
characters in USA and Pakistani politics unfold so does the
conspiracy that involves, power brokers in both countries
poised to exploit the natural resources of Pakistan. While the
book depicts a dismal picture of Pakistan politics and its
dependence on the west, it also describes the culture and
resolve of the people of Pakistan in vivid details reminding
us that the power to succeed lies within us no matter who seem
to have the strings behind the scenes. The book is available
